Three apps for heart health

Count to 36, to yourself right now. Go ahead. When you reach 36, one American will have died from cardiovascular disease. In one year, that adds up to 659,000 people in the United States who will die from heart disease. That’s 1 out of every 4 deaths in America (Stats from the CDC.)

Clearly, our heart health is something we should all be paying more attention to.

Luckily, we live in the future and that smartphone in your pocket can help keep tabs on your heart. So for this year's World Heart Day, we've compiled some cardiovascular apps for your phone to make cure your ticker keeps on tickin'.

Instant Heart Rate (Android, iOS)

Instant Heart rate is a free app that does exactly what it says: Put your finger lightly on your smartphone camera, and in a few seconds (ok, so not exactly instantly, but pretty close) it gives you your current heart rate in bpm. You can also sign up for the paid version which gives you access to more detailed reports and personal heart health tracking.

PulsePoint Respond (Android, iOS)

This is one of those apps you hope you never need, but if you do you'll be glad you have it. Pulse Point gives citizen responders mapping directions, notifies them of any automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in the area and provides, streaming audio of the emergency responders' radio traffic.

My Life Check (Android, iOS)

This app comes straight from the American Heart Association, who might know a thing or two about hearts.

My Life Check is a comprehensive app to assess your heart health score, make recommendations based on your score, and track your progress. Best part is that it's completely free, no ads even! And if you're looking for a phone to run these apps on, check out our latest offerings in our Store - the prices will help keep your heart rate down.
