#MyTextNow: How to swap a device

I get it. Believe me, I do. Spring is just around the corner, and your eye starts to wander. Maybe you’re perfectly happy with what you’ve got, but then you see something new and the wheels start to turn. “Sure, I’m happy… but where’s the excitement? I need something new.”

And then, before you know it, it happens. You’ve got a new phone.

With a traditional cell phone carrier, that flush of first new phone love can quickly sour when you realize what a hassle it’s going to be to swap your service. Or, rather, it would be a hassle — but, luckily, you’re with TextNow! If you’ve got a TextNow Wireless phone plan, you can swap the device your plan is using through our Self-Help Portal. Here’s how!

First, head on over to your Wireless Account page.

This is your one-stop shop for all things TextNow Wireless, but for now let’s just concentrate on swapping your active device. In the bottom left-hand corner of this page, click on Manage Device. That’ll bring up this page:

If you’re looking to upgrade or replace a device on your account, clicking View Deals on the left-hand panel will take you to our current list of phones on sale, which you can peruse at your leisure. If you’ve already got a fancy new phone that you want to use with your TextNow plan, click on Swap Active Device.

We’ll ask you to tell us if your device is either Android or OS — sorry, BlackBerry! — and ask for some information about your current phone (the ESN and ICCID number).

Once you click Submit, our system checks to make sure your new phone is compatible. If it is, then we turn off your plan on your old phone and activate the new one. None of the other details about your plan change — your billing date remains the same, your plan remains the same, your number and messages will transfer over. Literally the only thing that changes is the phone you’re using.

Pretty sweet, right? And for you TextNow free and Premium users, remember that you can always use TextNow on another device just by downloading the TextNow app and signing into your account.
